Now closed due to the passing of eccentric owner, “Wild Bill” Ziegler, the Wild Bill's Nostalgia Center was and amazing place surrounded by fantastic creations. Among those was this incredible haunted house, ordered closed by the county due to a plethora of safety issues. It was used for some movies, but not open to the public. Bill's imagination is clearly evident in the fantismic details of the structure.
Here is a link to a news story about Wild Bill's: https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/19394

Unsafe to use, the haunted house was demolished along with many other "treasures" on the site after Wild Bill passed. His family could not afford to keep Bill's labor of love, or perhaps obsession, in operation. I will develop a section of this web site devoted to this now extinct roadside treasure at a later date.

Old Pullman cars often served as bunkhouses on Colorado ranches before WWII.
Because of stone construction, abandoned buildings in Europe and the UK can be much older than we find here. Fences can be over a thousand years old. This farmhouse was abandoned and allowed to be completely overgrown with lush greenery.

Sometimes life on a ranch just became too hard, or an illness or injury led to a place being abandoned. I often wonder what human story lays behind the ruins.

This Irish farm may have been abandoned fifty years ago, or five hundred years ago. Due to fitted stone construction, it can be hard to tell. Once abandoned, the wooden roof can collapse in a few decades. Here. plants have grown up through the roof. Did the farmer get evicted, die, or get drafted into a regional war hundreds of years ago?

This abandoned tow truck has outlived its life. I brought back some of its original bright colors in this image. The truck is fading into the hillside behind it, being taken over by the plants.

I found this abandoned car and gas pumps near the Black Bayou in north central Louisiana. There has to be a story here! Where did the engine go? Who ripped out the seats?

The Mary Duncan Hume was a steamer built in 1881, transported freight between Oregon and San Francisco, worked as a whaler, then a tug. She retired in 1977, and sank at mooring in the Rogue River. Image taken in 2004. Now, only a few timbers remain.

This abandoned barn is now a state property along Highway 1 in Mendocino County. I felt black and white created a dramatic impression with the strong lines, shadows and sky.
